Kyoto Yuzu Tonkotsu Ramen, Zhongshan: Self-Service Ramen Without the Wait

A quick bowl of yuzu tonkotsu ramen near Taipei's Zhongshan Station, ordered through a fully English self-service kiosk with no wait in sight.

First Impression

Kyoto Yuzu Tonkotsu Ramen’s Zhongshan branch sits a short walk from Taipei’s Zhongshan MRT station. The sign out front reads 京都柚子豚骨拉麵, with the brand name YOTTEKOYA worked into the logo above it.

We ordered three bowls — one mild, two spicy — and walked in without any wait at all.

Ordering at the English Kiosk

Orders go through a tablet kiosk near the entrance, and the full menu is available in English. Broth comes in two styles — Japanese Style, labeled savory, or Taiwanese Style, labeled mild — and noodles can be ordered al dente, medium firm, or soft. A thick-noodle upgrade adds NT$30, and scallions or onions can be left off.

Each step had to be confirmed before moving to the next, which kept the line moving even with no staff taking orders directly.

The Bowl

The ramen arrived topped with chashu pork, a sheet of nori, corn, and greens. The yuzu came through clearly without overpowering the broth — mild and spicy both worked. My child preferred the spicy bowl.

Service was fast. With no wait at the door, the three bowls were in front of us within minutes of ordering.

Inside the Dining Room

Seating runs along a long bar counter on one side, with a narrower table against the opposite wall. We ended up seated side by side at the bar — the wall table looked too small for three.

A bamboo blind hangs above one of the wall-side tables, paired with a wood counter.

The back wall is layered with what looks like a collection of Japanese record sleeves, giving the narrow room a dense, collected feel rather than a minimal one.
